September 19-22, 2016 (Monday—Thursday)

A totally unique Bible study event based on the practical and biblical wisdom found in The Andy Griffith Show. Rich in inspiration, warm in nostalgia, and steeped in fun!

Discover a Mayberry State of Mind

We’d all like to live in Mayberry, wouldn’t we? We yearn for its slow pace and easy-going charm. We admire the loyal friendships and relish its true southern hospitality. We appreciate the joy its citizens find in life’s innocent pleasures. And we respect the fact that in the end, people in Mayberry just treat each other right.

Sadly, we can’t live in a fictional town. But we can learn a thing or two from our 1960’s-black-and-white-sitcom friends. Because when we fast-forward 56 years, we see that human nature hasn’t changed. We still deal with some of the same daily challenges. We still struggle with personal shortcomings. We still have imperfect relationships. We still want our faith to be stronger.

For four days, we’ll take you back to Mayberry. Yes, we’ll laugh and sing and enjoy sweet fellowship. But the genius of The Andy Griffith Show is that the essential life lessons it offers us are amazingly tied to God’s Word. Come discover practical biblical truths found in one of the most beloved shows in television history.

What people are saying about their

Memories from Mayberry Experience

A wonderful way to escape from our everyday lives and view life more as our Creator meant it to be. Today’s world, as supported by the media, is attempting to rename sinful behavior as acceptable behavior. This event allows us to focus on the way it should be, rather than on the way it should not be. A very positive experience with the focus on biblical truths.

Bill, Jonesville, SC

My husband and I enjoy delving deeper into the episodes and look forward to sharing what we learn with our children. Our time at the event recharges us and we return home full of joy. The breakout sessions, the fellowship, and the worship are something we look forward to enjoying again and again.

Krissy, Athens, GA

One of the draws of this event for us is the friendliness of everyone who participates—from the organizers and leaders of the event, to all who travel from near and far. It seems no one is a stranger and everyone is welcomed. The breakout sessions are so enjoyable as the leaders flesh out the life lessons of each episode, and the worship times are very inspiring. A highlight for us has been singing in the Mayberry Volunteer Choir. We look forward to renewing old acquaintances and meeting new friends again next year!

Johnie and Donna, Newton, MS

I have attended countless conferences and conventions, including several Promise Keepers events. But I must tell you that this was the most meaningful I have attended. Put in the context of the all-time greatest television show, it really confirmed in my heart that my actions and reactions in the real world make a difference in the lives of those I love as well as those I don’t even know, and biblical truths hold true regardless the setting. And fun, oh my. Singing in the choir was such a treat. It was so much fun! I think I know “Mayberry Union High” better than my own high school song. I believe it was St. Francis of Assisi, who said exactly what Andy Taylor exemplifies: “Go forth and spread the gospel, and when you must, use words.” The sets were incredible, the leaders outstanding, and the worship was fabulous.

Danny, College Station, TX

As lovers of The Andy Griffith Show, it’s a blast to be able to watch something that we love and correlate that to Jesus whom we love most of all. Taking a beloved classic television show and discussing with the practical applications that the episode lends on how to live a better life that is more Christ-centered is an incredible experience. So often we read the Bible, yet we have no idea how to apply it to our life. This is a wonderful opportunity to do just that. All of the sessions and leaders were phenomenal and the opportunity to fellowship with other believers across the country was a blast. I can’t wait until next year’s event!

Tim, Pooler, GA

We have always been fans of TAGS! The show embodies many things that are slipping away in our culture today, such as character and family values. It was a joy to share the experience with others who appreciate and miss those things. This event was wonderfully orchestrated from music emphasis to the correlation of Scripture in the breakout sessions. Would highly recommend it and look forward to future sessions.

Randy, LaGrange, GA

During my first trip to this wonderful, fun, and inspirational Christian event, I saw how much of Jesus’ plan for our lives can be extrapolated from this heartwarming show. I learned from other believers how to welcome visitors and encourage the saints better. Worship was sweet and holy-initiated by God. This was one of the most special times in my life. I never met a stranger those days. With “clean humor” and laughter, I really listened. We all need to return to Mayberry once in a while.

Josephine, Eads, TN

Our church group (First Baptist of Melbourne Florida) had such a great time of fellowship and were impressed with the course outline, session leaders, worship, and choir. You all did such a great job of setup, sales, presentations, etc. For us, this time meant continued Bible study in Jesus’ way of going up in the mountains for fellowship, prayer, study, and communing with God. Thank you for all that you did to make this a success. God bless you.

William & Anita, Melbourne, FL

This was my second Mayberry event and this time, I brought a friend. This event offers an escape to the simpler days and quiet pace of Mayberry that we see in every Andy Griffith Show episode. The lessons pointed out in each episode viewed made me realize how much I was actually learning when I watched the show on TV so many years ago. When you finally have to leave and return to normal, you find you’ve made several new friends along the way and life has been made just a little bit better. But then, isn’t that just the way it is in Mayberry?

Connie, Ruckersville, VA

I have to say I was somewhat apprehensive about the idea of receiving “spiritual” insights from The Andy Griffith Show. However, I was AMAZED and IMPRESSED with the insights uncovered by the session leaders. The episodes made me realize two things: 1. Andy [Taylor] exhibited and practiced the fruits of the spirit (wisdom, love, trustworthiness, dependability, forgiveness, loyalty, patience, gentleness, kindness, and mercy) and 2. People respond POSITIVELY when treated accordingly. Some days it’s easy to do so; other days, not so much. This conference REFOCUSED my way of doing things and assessing people. I am working hard to see people and treat people as Christ would. As Barney said, “Go not so much by the book, but by the heart.” I will never watch The Andy Griffith Show the same way—ever again! Our group is ready for another trip!

Jackie, Huntsville, TX

What a wonderful four days we experienced! It was great seeing all of you again and it really does feel like we are family. The worship services were super! And we were trying to decide which breakout session we enjoyed most but couldn’t narrow it down; each one had something so special about it. And of course, the Mayberry Choir was absolutely wonderful! I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into all this because everything was so perfect. And you can’t help but leave with a song in your heart and a spirit full of our Lord!

Peggy, Aiken, SC

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute! The best part and welcoming surprise was the presence of the Holy Spirit, making it a spiritual experience. This can be attributed to the dedicated preparation of the leaders, the worship services, and the openness of the attendees.

Caroline, Frankfort, KY

An awesome experience. The breakout sessions were great, the facilitators were top-notch, and the preaching and music were most inspiring. We learned that friends in Christ are friends forever as we enjoyed renewing friendships we had made in previous years.

Frank & Nancy, LaGrange, GA

An inspirational event for those seeking to immerse themselves for a few days in the sweetness, fun, and community that is the Mayberry aesthetic featured in The Andy Griffith Show.  For the past four years as its worship leader, director of the “Mayberry Volunteer Choir,” and presenter of a session (“Music of Mayberry”) that reveals how the music of The Andy Griffith Show supports the qualities of Mayberry, I have seen firsthand the enjoyment people experience when they attend.  Smiles, hugs, laughter, and singing are in abundance as they find a relaxed time to view wonderful episodes with fellow attendees, worship with gospel hymns that Andy and Barney might have sung, and contemplate the simple values found in the episodes along with corresponding excerpts from Scripture. In the “Mayberry Volunteer Choir,” attendees become interactive participants in a unique setting, forming a large choir to sing songs from the show in a welcoming (no musical experience necessary) and fun environment. One participant told me this was his first time ever to sing in a choir. Even mealtimes encourage folks to meet and get to know each other. Friendships form easily and quickly. It is clear on the final day that people carry home with them many beautiful memories of their time in “Mayberry.” In the words of one of the choir members, “It is the best Christian conference I have ever attended.”

Returning to Mayberry each year is both refreshing and reflective, and it gives us a renewed sense of things that are just right: family, friends, faith, laughter, love, and a joy of life. With a focus on biblical truths, the event places a permanent mark on those who are fortunate to attend. It’s a joy to serve and lead these memorable Bible studies.

It has been an honor to be a part of this wonderful event. As a worship pastor, we often use video clips to serve as sermon illustrations in our worship services. There is no better television show than The Andy Griffith Show to supply us with countless examples of friendship, love, compassion, and community. People come from all walks of life to this event—many come with burdens and cares—and are temporarily taken away to a simpler time and place to relax, recharge, and reflect.

I have been honored to serve in leadership for many denominational and church-related conferences during my more than 25 years of ministry in the local church setting. One of the most unique and meaningful conferences I have been associated with is “Memories from Mayberry: Timeless Truths from America’s Hometown.” During the four-day event, the people of God are afforded multiple opportunities for worship, Bible study, and spiritual reflection. From beginning to end, “Memories from Mayberry” is an excellent event–a celebration of the enduring truths woven into the fabric of the most wholesome show in television history.
